Modular system for a quick kids’ pool

Innovative Coffs Harbour firm, Swimplex Aquatics, has come up with an exciting new concept that can easily and cheaply allow aquatic centres to increase patronage by appealing to families with small children.

Hidroplay is a modular system of pool sections, which Swimplex director Geoff Leaver says is aimed at toddlers and preschoolers, and is specifically designed to make it easier for the parents as well.

“It can help bring people into the centre when it’s normally quiet, and the mums can buy coffees and spend some money in the cafe,” he says. It includes modular seating around the edge for the mums or dads to sit in comfort and keep an eye on the little ones.

“It’s a constant depth of 200mm, so it gets away from the splash park and appeals to younger kids,” says Leaver.

“It goes on an existing slab – provided it’s level – or you can just build a flat slab for it. So it’s dirt cheap. You can come up with any size or shape you want and fill it with a whole range of different toys that we’ve made for it. Some are interactive with hand pumps, and there’s little water slides and spray features.”

They’ve just finished one at the Green Valley Farm and Aquatic Park at Tingha near Inverell, NSW. Many more are in the pipeline. For more information contact Swimplex on 1300 796 759, or visit

Anna Conda gives new life to an old pool

Swimplex Aquatics also installed some of their new water features at Uralla Pool in the northern tablelands of NSW. Originally, all the centre had was a typical old rectangular kiddies’ pool and was quite boring. But the new snake device “Anna Conda” soon livened things up.

“The feature was easy to fit and the kids just love it,” says Daniel Leaver, Swimplex industrial designer. “We can make them to fit any application,” he says. “Australia has to get beyond the fibreglass slugs common in many pools, and start making our own quality features instead of importing them. Our next cab off the rank is called Joe Blake, and we think the kids will go
crazy over this as well.
